Thanksgiving Day

The kids just left. We had a great Thanksgiving. It was the first one that I had everyone bring something. The kids have more money and time than I do anyways!

It was a blessing not only at checkout time at the grocery store, it was also less work and stress getting everything ready. I made a new dessert, pumpkin/chocolate pound cake. It turned out good. I got an extra turkey. I went to a different store for a few items and only had to spend $25 to get a cheap turkey. Pretty broke again, but we have a lot of food. I also got a lot of potatoes because they were cheap.

I know someone who fed homeless and needy people on Thanksgiving. It was the first holiday since her dad left her mom and they didn’t feel like doing the dinner. I thought that what such a wonderful way to turn something “bad” into something good. They enjoyed pizza for dinner that night.

I’m feeling nervous about Christmas. Not getting the hours at one of my jobs that I did. It seems like I have been busier with my daughter and haven’t written as much. I will need to get focused on that. Working on a “keep it simple” attitude. Thinking about little gifts that last, like a year pass to a local attractions.

For now, I’m going to put that out of my mind and just appreciate that I had the time with family today and my son’s girlfriend was able to join us for dessert. I pray for those who have less, there will always be someone with less, remembering that keeps things in perspective. I have so much to be Thankful for. Taking the time to appreciate each and everything uses up time that will NOT be spent thinking about what I don’t have.
